KARACHI: Police in Defence Phase 2 reportedly engaged in an encounter with motorcycle-riding suspects allegedly involved in street robberies, during which one suspect was killed by firing from his own accomplice, while the other suspect managed to escape.

According to police, the suspects were allegedly engaged in looting citizens near Defence Phase 2 when a police team reached the spot. As soon as they saw the police, the suspects opened fire and attempted to flee.

During the exchange of fire, one suspect was struck by a bullet fired by his own accomplice and died on the spot. His accomplice continued firing at the police and managed to escape from the scene.

Police identified the deceased suspect as Zeeshan, son of Manzoor Masi.

A .30-bore pistol along with rounds, a snatched mobile phone and a purse were recovered from the possession of the deceased suspect.

The body was shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities, while further legal proceedings are underway. Police are also checking the deceased suspect’s previous criminal record.

A search operation is continuing in the area to trace and arrest the escaped suspect. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
