ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has urged dialogue to improve Pakistan-Afghanistan relations while expressing concern that Afghan territory is allegedly being used for attacks against Pakistan.

Speaking on Geo News’ program Jirga, Hafiz Naeem said he had a “serious complaint” with Afghanistan’s interim Taliban administration, alleging that it had not been able to prevent its territory from being used against Pakistan.

He suggested that the issue should be addressed through dialogue involving the Government of Pakistan, religious scholars, and international organizations of Islamic scholars.

The JI chief also said that regional countries, including China, Russia, and Türkiye, could play a constructive role in helping normalize relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

According to Hafiz Naeem, diplomatic engagement should be given priority because continued tensions risk driving the people of the two neighboring countries further apart.

He noted that the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan have maintained close ties for decades and said disagreements should remain at the government or policy level rather than affecting ordinary citizens.

Hafiz Naeem further proposed that tribal elders be given meaningful representation in a grand jirga, arguing that such a forum could help resolve longstanding issues between the two countries through consultation and dialogue.

The remarks reflect the Jamaat-e-Islami chief’s views on Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. The Afghan interim authorities have previously stated that they do not allow their territory to be used against other countries.
