ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has expressed concern over Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, saying he has a serious complaint against the Afghan Taliban for failing to prevent their territory from being used for activities against Pakistan.
Speaking on Geo News’ program Jirga, Hafiz Naeem said the issue should be addressed through dialogue between the Pakistani state and Afghan religious scholars, adding that international organizations of Islamic scholars could also play a constructive role.
He emphasized that China, Russia, and Türkiye are already playing roles in efforts to normalize relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and stressed that dialogue should be given every opportunity because continued conflict only drives the people of the two neighboring countries further apart.
Hafiz Naeem noted that the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan have supported and welcomed each other for nearly five decades, adding that while disagreements may exist between governments or over policies, ordinary citizens should not bear the consequences.
He further suggested that tribal elders and representatives should be given a meaningful role, proposing the formation of a grand jirga with broad tribal participation to help resolve the longstanding issues between the two countries through peaceful negotiations.
