ISLAMABAD: Pakistan obtained $16.2 billion in foreign loans from China during the last fiscal year, including $1.7 billion in refinancing, according to official figures.
The data show that the government fell short of its overall foreign financing target, receiving $3.72 billion less than planned in foreign loans and grants.
Pakistan had set a target of securing $19.92 billion in foreign loans and grants during the fiscal year but was unable to achieve the goal.
According to the official statistics, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) emerged as the country’s largest multilateral lender during the period, providing $953.74 million in financing.
The figures highlight Pakistan’s continued reliance on external financing to support its fiscal requirements, while also reflecting challenges in meeting projected foreign funding targets during the financial year.
