KARACHI: The government has reduced the profit rates on several National Savings Schemes, lowering returns for investors and account holders.

According to an official notification issued by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS), the annual profit rate for the Behbood Savings Certificate and the Pensioners’ Benefit Account has been revised to 12.96%.

The notification also states that the Regular Income Certificate (RIC) will now offer a monthly profit rate equivalent to an annual return of 11.52%.

Under the revised rates, an investment of Rs100,000 in a Regular Income Certificate will generate a monthly profit of Rs960.

For the Special Savings Certificate, the profit rate has been set at 11.2% for the first six months and 12.6% for the following six months, according to the notification.

The government has also reduced the annual return on the Shuhada Family Welfare Account to 12.96%.

The revised profit rates are expected to affect investors who rely on National Savings Schemes for fixed-income returns, particularly pensioners, senior citizens, and families using these schemes for long-term savings.
