SUKKUR : A dignified flag-hoisting ceremony was organized at the Walking Track in Sukkur by the District Administration Sukkur and Sukkur Municipal Corporation to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, Member of the National Assembly Noman Islam Sheikh, Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi, Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Nadir Shehzad Khan and Deputy Mayor Sukkur Dr. Arshad Mughal jointly hoisted the national flag.
The ceremony was attended by Pakistan Navy Lieutenant Commander Yasir Kamran Khawaja, officers of the Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Army and police, officials of various government departments, religious leaders from different faiths, women, children and a large number of citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh said that on the national day, the nation must pledge to follow the message and principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Muhammad Iqbal and other national leaders.
Paying tribute to the armed forces, police and all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, he said that while citizens were peacefully sleeping in their homes, the country’s armed forces remained alert to protect the national borders.
MNA Noman Islam Sheikh, addressing the ceremony, said that everyone would have to play their role collectively for Pakistan’s development, prosperity and stability. He congratulated the nation on Independence Day and emphasized the need for collective efforts for the progress of the country.
Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi said that international confidence in Pakistan was evidence of the country’s development and stability. He congratulated the people on the 79th Independence Day and urged citizens to perform their responsibilities diligently for the development and prosperity of the country.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, who was the chief guest, said the enthusiasm of citizens, particularly women and children, during the Independence Day celebrations was remarkable.
He said people belonging to all religions were participating in Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations, which reflected national unity and solidarity. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also enthusiastically raised the slogan, “Pakistan Zindabad Forever.”
The ceremony concluded with a special prayer for the security, development, prosperity and stability of Pakistan.
