MQM-Pakistan leader Farooq Sattar has alleged irregularities in the MDCAT examination, claiming that Karachi’s students are being subjected to injustice and their educational future is being compromised.
Farooq Sattar said that only two examination centres had been established for around 12,000 students in Karachi, while the examination fee had also been increased. He further alleged that students were made to sit for the MDCAT examination in open grounds amid intense heat.
Sattar said the doors of educational institutions were being closed for Karachi’s youth and alleged that students from urban areas of Sindh were being pushed towards an uncertain future.
Reacting to Farooq Sattar’s press conference, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that “Karachi’s child is ours and Thar’s child is ours,” adding that the politics of “our children and others’ children” would no longer work.
Memon challenged Farooq Sattar to present evidence if he had proof of irregularities in the MDCAT examination.
He said allegations alone could not make any student’s success questionable and maintained that the examination process should be assessed on the basis of evidence.
Sharjeel Memon also rejected the linking of Red Line BRT construction with MDCAT results, calling it an “absurd argument.”
He further criticized MQM’s past political role in Karachi, alleging that the party had created a political and social environment whose effects the city suffered for years.
Memon said that as Karachi’s youth were turning towards books and education, they should not again be pushed into divisions between “our children and others’ children.”
