SUKKUR : The district administration Sukkur organized a ceremony at the auditorium hall of Sukkur IBA University to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day. Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi, Vice Chancellor Sukkur IBA University Dr. Asif Sheikh, Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Nadir Shehzad Khan and SSP Sukkur Azhar Khan Mughal attended the ceremony.
A large number of elected representatives, officers of various government departments, students from public and private schools, teachers and parents also participated in the event.
Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that Pakistan was the identity of all its citizens. He said the professional and successful role of the Pakistan Armed Forces had earned the country recognition around the world.
He said Pakistan had defeated a country considered a regional superpower in the recent “Battle of Truth.” He credited Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto with laying the foundation of Pakistan’s nuclear programme and said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto played an important role in advancing the technology associated with it.
The provincial minister said Pakistan’s diplomatic role had also contributed to preventing the world from moving towards a third world war. Addressing the students, he said children in schools were the future of the country.
He appreciated Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Nadir Shehzad Khan for introducing a new tradition of recognizing prominent citizens who had rendered outstanding services in different fields. Certificates of appreciation and shields were presented to such personalities during the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh government spokesperson and Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh congratulated the nation on Independence Day. He said Pakistan’s positive and strong role in regional and international affairs had increased the country’s standing in the world.
He highlighted Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the US-Iran conflict and its success against a much larger country in the “Battle of Truth,” saying these developments had brought international recognition to Pakistan.
The Mayor emphasized that genuine national development could only be achieved through education. He said politicians should prioritize serving the public, while government officials should consider themselves servants of the people. He added that improving the country’s administrative system was essential for development and progress.
Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Nadir Shehzad Khan announced that 14,000 saplings would be planted across the district on the occasion of August 14. He said a week-long tree plantation campaign was also being launched throughout the district from the day of the ceremony.
The Deputy Commissioner said a “Token of Appreciation” was being presented to the bright stars of Sukkur in recognition of their contributions in different fields. He also appreciated the speeches and tableau performances presented by children from Pakistan Sweet Home Sukkur and various public and private schools in the district.
During the ceremony, Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh government spokesperson and Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi, Vice Chancellor Sukkur IBA University Professor Dr. Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shehzad Khan and SSP Sukkur Azhar Khan Mughal presented certificates of appreciation and shields to distinguished individuals.
Professor Ghulam Hussain Mangnehar was recognized for his services to education, Adal Soomro for literature, Wasim Shamsi for journalism, Abdul Sattar Siyal for artwork, Faraz Sarwar as a young artist, Yusuf Awan for bodybuilding, Shahid Rajput as the Best Polio Worker, and Niazat Ali for youth awareness services.
Vice Chancellor Sukkur IBA University Professor Dr. Asif Ahmed Sheikh and Director Secondary Education Sukkur Shahabuddin Andhar also addressed the ceremony.
SSP Sukkur Azhar Khan Mughal, Director Sweet Home Sukkur Shabbir Memon, Director Information Ghulam Abbas Goraho, students, teachers and citizens also attended the event.
