Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has warned the authorities that imposing governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) could create serious law and order problems across the country.

Speaking to the media in Swat on Monday, Gohar said the PTI’s planned long march would remain peaceful. He said participants would travel to Islamabad carrying Pakistani flags.

Gohar accused the federal government of sabotaging negotiations and said the central authorities were openly interfering in the affairs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He claimed that the provincial government had been weakened because the police and administration were not cooperating with elected representatives, despite the PTI being in power in the province.

The PTI chairman also alleged that two provincial ministers, members of the National Assembly and members of the provincial assembly, had been abducted.

He said the PTI was a democratic political party that had received more than 20 million votes. He also criticised the authorities over the imprisonment of what he described as innocent sisters of the PTI founder.

Gohar said that despite what he called continued mistreatment of the PTI, the federal government was accusing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of failing to cooperate.

Separately, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja said at a press conference in Islamabad that the party had taken part in negotiations with an open mind and in good faith.

Raja said no final decision could be reached without involving PTI founder Imran Khan. He said Khan would provide guidance and help resolve the political situation.

He described a meeting with Imran Khan as the most important issue and said both Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, had the right to meet their lawyers.

The PTI leaders’ statements came amid growing political tensions between the federal government and the KP administration over negotiations, protests and the planned long march to Islamabad.
