Karachi: Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, has urged young women lawyers to make reading an integral part of their lives, emphasizing that continuous study of the law is the hallmark of a successful legal professional.
He made these remarks at the closing ceremony of a capacity-building program for young women lawyers, organized by SHARP Pakistan at the Sindh Bar Council Hall. At the conclusion of the event, Justice Rajput distributed certificates of appreciation among the participants who successfully completed the training program.
The ceremony was attended by Sindh Bar Council Chairman Ayaz Hussain Tunio, Amel Khan, Waqar Alam, Jahangir Rahoojo, Arun Prasad, Riaz Ahmed, SHARP Pakistan Project Director Atif Afzal, Qurat-ul-Ain Lodhi, and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the audience, Justice Rajput described the capacity-building initiative for young women lawyers as a commendable step. He congratulated the organizers of SHARP Pakistan, the Judicial Academy, and the Sindh Bar Council for successfully conducting the program.
He stressed that lawyers should make continuous learning a fundamental part of their professional lives. According to him, an advocate who consistently studies the law and applies that knowledge in practice is the one who achieves lasting success in the legal profession.
The Chief Justice noted that the legal profession requires constant study and learning. He said that lawyers who continue to educate themselves and use their knowledge to provide better legal services to the public lay the foundation for a successful career. He added that the study of law should not be confined to examinations but should be regarded as a continuous intellectual, educational, and professional journey that enhances a lawyer’s personality and capabilities. He encouraged young women lawyers to continually expand their legal knowledge so they can serve society more effectively.
The capacity-building program was organized by SHARP Pakistan under its SHARP Women Initiative, with the support of the German Embassy in Islamabad, at the Sindh Bar Council Hall. Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput attended the closing session as the chief guest. The SHARP Pakistan team warmly welcomed him and presented him with a commemorative shield. He later distributed certificates to 25 young women lawyers who successfully completed the training program and congratulated them on their achievement.
Speaking at the event, SHARP Islamabad Project Director Atif Afzal said that education and knowledge are the two fundamental elements that enable individuals to succeed in professional life. He encouraged young lawyers to develop a strong relationship with legal literature and to treat the legal profession as their passion, saying that such dedication would pave the way for success. He also urged women lawyers to prioritize continuous learning and professional development.
Kalpana Devi, a member of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), said that self-confidence, consistent hard work, professional integrity, and perseverance are the defining qualities of every successful lawyer. She encouraged young women lawyers to have confidence in their abilities and to view every challenge as an opportunity for growth.
Qurat-ul-Ain Lodhi, Team Lead of SHARP Karachi, shared her professional experiences and said that the key to success lies in continuous learning, improving professional skills, and maintaining a sincere commitment to one’s profession. She advised young women lawyers to stay informed about the latest developments in the legal field so they can play a more effective role in ensuring justice within society.
The ceremony was attended by lawyers, legal experts, judicial officers, and individuals from various walks of life. The speakers reaffirmed their commitment to organizing similar training programs in the future, stating that such initiatives play a significant role in enhancing the professional capacity of young women lawyers and strengthening the justice system in Pakistan.
