Sukkur (Bureau Report): A couple from Pathan Colony in New Pind, Sukkur, who entered into a love marriage, has appealed for protection of their lives after receiving alleged threats. The couple appeared at the Sukkur Press Club and urged the authorities to ensure their safety.
Speaking to the media, Sikandar Ali Mirani, son of Muhammad Yaseen Mirani, and his wife Juveria Abbasi, daughter of Muhammad Maqsood Abbasi, said they legally married by mutual consent at the Hyderabad Sessions Court on July 20, completing all legal formalities. They said they wished to live a peaceful married life in New Pind, Sukkur, but Juveria’s family and some other individuals have refused to accept the marriage and have allegedly been threatening and harassing them.
Juveria Abbasi alleged that her father, Muhammad Maqsood Abbasi, and her brother, Muhammad Saqib Abbasi, have turned against the couple under the influence of certain individuals. She further claimed that Abdul Ghaffar Mirani and Kashmeera Mirani have also issued death threats, despite having no involvement in the marriage or the nikah process.
Juveria stated that she left her home of her own free will and was neither abducted nor forced into marriage. According to her, she voluntarily married Sikandar Ali Mirani in court, but despite the marriage being lawful and consensual, the couple continues to face serious threats and intimidation.
Addressing the media, Juveria said that although she had legally married by her own choice, her family was attempting to harm her, leaving the couple living in constant fear.
Sikandar Ali Mirani said that he and Juveria loved each other and therefore decided to marry in accordance with the law. He added that Juveria’s father and brother are unhappy with their decision, while several other individuals have allegedly threatened them with serious consequences, raising fears that an unfortunate incident could occur at any time.
Through the media, the couple appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Sukkur, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sukkur to provide them with immediate legal protection so they can live their married life without fear. They also requested that their statement be officially recorded so that, if any harm comes to them in the future, those responsible can be held legally accountable.
The couple concluded by saying that if they are not provided timely protection, their lives remain at serious risk, and they urged the relevant authorities to take immediate notice and ensure the safety of both their lives and property.
