Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has again offered talks to the Opposition, saying the PTI should abandon the path of sit-in protests and the government is willing to sit with it if the party calls off its long march.

Addressing a ceremony in connection with the groundbreaking of Kashmir Chowk Underpass in Islamabad on Tuesday, PM Shehbaz Sharif said that unfortunately the recently-held talks with the Opposition could not produce positive results. “Marathon serious efforts were made for talks with the PTI but it could not yield a favourable outcome. PTI should come to its senses and give up politics of sit-ins,” he added.

During the speech, Shehbaz Sharif made it crystal clear that nobody will be allowed to harm the country’s economy through the politics of protests. He categorically said that law would take its course for protection of lives and property of the citizens.

The prime minister mentioned the macroeconomic stability achieved by the country over the last two and a half years and highlighted the increase in exports and remittances. He called on the PTI to call off its long march, saying if it does so, the government will sit with it in order to take the country forward. He emphasized that this is also the will and voice of the nation.

Shehbaz Sharif said the PML-N and the PPP had collectively decided, after mutual consultations, to hold meaningful and result-oriented negotiations with the PTI in good faith, with the aim of persuading it to abandon the politics of long marches and resolve issues through dialogue.

The premier said that despite the government’s seriousness the talks failed to remain productive, regretting that the other side did not appear willing to make the negotiations successful.

PM Shehbaz was appreciative of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for setting the timeline of one month for completing Kashmir Chowk Underpass. He emphasized that road infrastructure including bridges and underpasses facilitate different segments of the society to reach their destination points on time and contribute to the socioeconomic uplift of the country.

In his address, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the project was part of the prime minister’s vision to transform and beautify Islamabad ahead of the SCO Heads of State Summit scheduled to be held in Islamabad next year.

He noted that upon the completion of the Kashmir Chowk and Expressway service road projects, the travel time between the twin cities would be slashed from the current 30 minutes down to just 16 to 18 minutes.

The minister said that Minister of State Talal Chaudhry was personally overseeing two key initiatives: making Islamabad entirely plastic-free and transitioning the capital into a cashless city, with both projects targeted for completion by the end of the year.

Highlighting environmental and recreational developments, Naqvi mentioned that F-9 Park was being upgraded along the lines of London’s Hyde Park. Additionally, a safari park—projected to be Asia’s largest—along with another park matching the size of F-9, would be developed.

“By the time we leave office, we will make Islamabad three times greener than it was,” he resolved, also announcing that the complete digitalization of land records would be finalized by the end of this year.

Contrasting this development with PTI’s politics of long march, Naqvi urged the public to evaluate whether their elected representatives were working tirelessly for their welfare or indulging in negative politics.
