MUMBAI: Veteran Indian actor Dilip Joshi, best known for playing Jethalal in the hit comedy series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has denied rumours that he is leaving the long-running television show.

Speaking to the media during celebrations marking the show’s 18th anniversary, Joshi reflected on its enduring success and addressed speculation surrounding his future with the series.

“It has been 18 years since Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah began, and audiences continue to shower it with love,” he said. “It has been an incredible journey, and the entire team’s efforts deserve appreciation for making the show such a success.”

Responding to reports that he was planning to quit the sitcom, Joshi said he had also come across the rumours but dismissed them as baseless.

He criticized the spread of unverified information on social media, saying many people create sensational stories simply to attract views and generate revenue.

“It’s unfortunate when even established media organizations publish such reports without verifying the facts,” Joshi said. “It feels like everyone is in a race to be first, often at the expense of accuracy.”

The actor urged media outlets to verify information before publishing stories, requesting that they contact either the production house or the individual concerned to confirm the facts.

“I would like to request media houses that whenever they publish a story, they should first verify it with the production team or the person involved,” he said.

Joshi’s statement comes after online speculation suggested he might be leaving the popular sitcom, a claim he has now firmly rejected while emphasizing the importance of responsible journalism and fact-checking.
