KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait’s armed forces have confirmed that four military personnel were injured in an attack on a Kuwaiti naval vessel, an incident the military attributed to Iran.
In a statement, the Kuwaiti military said the naval vessel was targeted on Tuesday, leaving four service members injured. It added that all four received medical treatment and are in stable condition.
According to the statement, Kuwait’s armed forces also intercepted one ballistic missile, four cruise missiles, and 33 drones on the same day. The military said the projectiles were allegedly aimed at key military and civilian facilities.
Officials added that debris from the intercepted missiles and drones caused material damage in some areas.
The incident follows a statement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claiming it had targeted what it described as enemy weapons depots in Bahrain and Kuwait.
The IRGC also said it had struck a drone launch site at Kuwait’s Ali Al Salem Air Base, describing the operation as a response to U.S. military actions against Iran.
In a separate statement, the IRGC warned that as long as what it described as “U.S. aggression” continues, regional oil and gas exports would remain at risk, adding that U.S. actions would only delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The competing claims by Kuwaiti and Iranian authorities could not be independently verified. No immediate response from U.S. officials regarding the IRGC’s statements was available at the time of reporting.
