PARIS: A powerful windstorm brought an abrupt end to extreme heat along France’s Atlantic coast, with temperatures reportedly plunging from 39°C to 11°C within just six minutes at a beach in the southwestern town of Hendaye, according to international media reports.
The sudden weather change surprised beachgoers who had gathered along the coast to escape the scorching summer heat.
Reports said that France has been experiencing a period of exceptionally hot weather, with temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius in several areas.
However, conditions changed rapidly at Hendaye Beach when dark storm clouds formed unexpectedly, followed by strong winds that swept across the coastline.
The powerful gusts forced visitors to quickly gather their belongings and leave the beach in search of shelter as the weather deteriorated within minutes.
According to media reports, the temperature dropped dramatically from 39°C to 11°C in approximately six minutes, bringing an abrupt end to the intense heat and replacing it with much cooler conditions.
Videos circulating on social media captured the dramatic scene, showing beach visitors rushing away from the shoreline while strong winds blew across the area.
The footage also showed dark clouds moving overhead as the sudden weather system reached the coast.
Meteorologists note that sharp temperature changes can occur when powerful storm systems or cold air masses rapidly replace hot surface air, particularly in coastal regions. However, the reported figures have been attributed to international media reports and have not been independently verified in this report.
The incident highlights the increasingly volatile weather conditions being experienced across parts of Europe during the summer season, as several countries continue to face alternating periods of extreme heat and severe storms.
