ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held separate telephone conversations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressing Pakistan’s deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions in the region and reaffirming the country’s commitment to peace, stability, and diplomatic engagement.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday, during which both leaders discussed the evolving regional situation and the importance of maintaining dialogue and cooperation.
During the conversation, the prime minister emphasized the significance of honoring the mutual commitments and responsibilities outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He said the agreement provides a durable foundation for promoting mutual understanding, respect, and shared prosperity not only within the region but beyond it as well.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan remains firmly committed to supporting initiatives aimed at restoring regional peace and stability. He reiterated Islamabad’s willingness to play a sincere, constructive, and honest role in efforts designed to reduce tensions and encourage peaceful solutions to regional challenges.
The prime minister stressed that diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation remain the most effective means of addressing disputes and ensuring lasting peace. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to work closely with neighboring countries and regional partners in pursuit of stability and collective development.
As part of the conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, expressing goodwill and respect on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan.
In a separate telephone call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss the recent developments in the region following the latest attacks that have heightened tensions.
During the discussion, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the State of Qatar and expressed the country’s full support during the challenging circumstances. He underscored the importance of regional unity, restraint, and continued diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
The conversations reflect Pakistan’s continued diplomatic outreach to key regional partners amid growing concerns over security and stability in the Middle East. Islamabad has consistently advocated for dialogue, peaceful conflict resolution, and adherence to international commitments as the preferred path toward reducing tensions.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Pakistan remains committed to working with friendly countries to promote peace, strengthen regional cooperation, and support initiatives that contribute to long-term stability and shared prosperity across the region.
