Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have issued written operational guidelines for handling riots and protest demonstrations, warning of strict legal action against individuals involved in violence, vandalism and disruption of law and order.

According to the guidelines, police will take action in accordance with the law against individuals involved in rioting, attacks on security personnel and damage to public or private property.

The guidelines state that damage to government installations, buildings and other public property will not be permitted under any circumstances during protests or riots.

Police have warned citizens against participating in unlawful gatherings, violent activities or acts of incitement, saying violators will face strict legal action.

The directives also call for action against individuals who attack security forces or government buildings or endanger the lives and property of citizens.

Citizens have been advised to remain peaceful, comply with the law and avoid being misled by individuals seeking to provoke violence or disorder.

Under the operational guidelines, special security arrangements will be made to protect police stations, government buildings, banks, petrol pumps, commercial centres and major highways during protests.

Police have also been instructed to video-record protest demonstrations and related activities to facilitate subsequent legal proceedings against individuals involved in unlawful acts.

The guidelines further emphasise coordination with district administrations and other relevant agencies to ensure an effective response to protest-related situations.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police said all measures to maintain law and order would be carried out in accordance with the law, with particular emphasis on protecting public property and ensuring the safety of citizens.
