According to international media reports, a total of 280 goals have been scored in the first 96 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Argentina have emerged as the tournament’s highest-scoring team with 14 goals. Captain Lionel Messi leads the Golden Boot race with 8 goals, taking his overall FIFA World Cup tally to 21 goals.
For the first time in World Cup history, three players have scored seven or more goals in a single edition. Alongside Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland have each netted 7 goals, making them the tournament’s leading scorers.
Mbappé has also extended his World Cup knockout-stage scoring record to 11 goals.
The report added that the FIFA World Cup has now witnessed 3,000 goals in its history, with Enzo Fernández scoring the landmark 3,000th World Cup goal.
According to a sports statistics website, referees have shown 259 yellow cards and 14 red cards so far during the tournament.
