Amid rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the federal government has ordered an immediate increase in security for sensitive installations, CPEC projects, and foreign missions across the country.

The government has issued a nationwide high alert in view of the evolving security situation on the Pak-Afghan border. All provinces — Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan — as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Islamabad Capital Territory have been directed to immediately tighten security arrangements.

In an official communication, the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control described the current circumstances as reflecting an “elevated threat perception” and emphasized the need for immediate and comprehensive measures.

According to government documents, letters have been sent to the chief secretaries of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory. The directive instructs authorities to strengthen and coordinate protective measures in light of the prevailing security environment.

The communication specifically calls for enhanced security at all sensitive installations, key government buildings, public spaces, places of worship, foreign diplomatic missions, and projects linked to the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor. Other vulnerable targets are also to receive additional protection.

Provincial authorities have been instructed to place all law enforcement agencies on high alert and ensure strict checking and surveillance at entry and exit points, inter-provincial borders, and established checkpoints.
