Karachi: Fire at an eight-storey residential building near Baloch Colony Bridge in Karachi has been brought under control.
According to rescue officials, the fire broke out in the basement of the building. The Chief Fire Officer stated that four fire tenders and two snorcles were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
The Chief Fire Officer added that the smoke had spread throughout the building, and people were evacuated using snorcles.
Rescue authorities said that each of the eight floors has four flats. The basement housed vehicles and a generator. However, the initial cause of the fire could not be determined.
Meanwhile, a female resident of the building told media that the fire trucks that arrived initially did not have fuel. She said that residents bought 30 liters of petrol from their own pockets to assist in firefighting.
The resident also praised police officer ASI Arslan, calling him “the real hero” for helping evacuate people from their homes during the incident.
