SUKKUR : While the Sukkur administration remained busy organizing Independence Day celebrations, a water supply pipeline in Micro Colony burst for the sixth time in three months, flooding the road in Mirani Mohalla and causing severe difficulties for local residents.
According to reports, the water supply line passing through Mirani Mohalla, near the Exhibition Ground, UC-6, Ward-4, Town Jae Shah, Sukkur, burst again, leaving the Mirani Mohalla Road submerged and disrupting traffic and pedestrian movement.
Residents said the pipeline had broken six times over the past three months at different locations, including Mirani Mohalla, Shahrah-e-Benazir and Daneshgah Colony. They alleged that the repeated failures were caused by a substandard pipeline installed approximately one year ago.
The residents alleged that the defective pipeline was installed through alleged collusion between the relevant Union Council chairman and the contractor, while the people of Mirani Mohalla were being forced to bear the consequences.
They expressed anger over the deteriorating water supply infrastructure and said repeated pipeline failures had created serious problems for residents and affected normal movement in the area.
The residents appealed to Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Sukkur Arsalan Islam Sheikh and other senior authorities to take immediate notice of the matter.
They demanded departmental action against those allegedly involved in corruption and called for an inquiry into the quality and installation of the pipeline. They also urged the authorities to ensure the provision of basic municipal and civic facilities to the residents.
The residents of Mirani Mohalla and the surrounding area warned that if their legitimate demands were not addressed, they would launch a protest, holding the concerned departments responsible for any resulting situation.
