Authorities have announced the imposition of Section 144 in Murree on the occasion of the New Year, restricting entry to certain areas in order to maintain law and order. Under this decision, only families will be allowed to enter Murree Mall Road for the next two days.
According to the District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, the step has been taken to provide a peaceful and safe environment for tourist families visiting the hill station to celebrate the New Year. The DPO clarified that bachelor tourists are not completely banned from Murree; however, they will not be permitted to enter Mall Road and may visit other designated areas instead.
Meanwhile, the “Queen of the Hills” Murree remains covered under thick clouds as a large number of tourists continue to arrive to celebrate New Year festivities. Despite the restrictions, tourist activity in the region is ongoing, with visitors enjoying the winter atmosphere and scenic views.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain and snowfall in Murree and surrounding areas from today until January 2. In view of the expected weather conditions, the Punjab Highway Department has issued an alert to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety during the snowfall.
Provincial Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth has directed the Punjab Highway Department to remain on full alert. He instructed that snow-clearing machinery should remain operational around the clock to promptly remove snow from roads and prevent traffic disruptions.
Authorities have advised tourists to follow official guidelines, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy snowfall, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year for everyone visiting Murree and the Galiyat region.
