Lahore: A tragic incident occurred in Sargodha when a police mobile on routine patrol was struck by a passing train, resulting in the martyrdom of two police personnel and injuries to three others. The incident has sent shockwaves across the province and drawn immediate attention from senior police leadership.

According to a spokesperson of the Punjab Police, the incident took place while Special Protection Unit (SPU) personnel were carrying out routine patrolling duties. During the patrol, the police vehicle came in the path of a train and was hit with force, causing severe damage to the mobile and leading to casualties among the police staff on board.

Details of the Incident

Police officials stated that the SPU mobile was engaged in regular security patrols when the accident occurred. As a result of the collision, two police officers embraced martyrdom on the spot, while three other personnel sustained injuries. The injured officers were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. Doctors have described their condition as stable, though they remain under observation.

Initial reports suggest that the incident happened at a railway crossing, though the exact circumstances leading to the collision are still under investigation. Authorities are examining whether visibility issues, mechanical failure, or human error contributed to the tragic accident.

IG Punjab Takes Notice

Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, took immediate notice of the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives. He directed the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) SPU to submit a detailed report on the incident, including the causes of the collision and any possible lapses.

The IG Punjab also ordered that all necessary medical assistance be provided to the injured officers and emphasized that no negligence would be tolerated if found during the inquiry.

Tribute to Martyred Officers

Paying rich tribute to the fallen police personnel, Dr. Usman Anwar said that the officers laid down their lives in the line of duty while serving the people of Punjab. He described their sacrifice as a symbol of courage, dedication, and commitment to public safety.

“The Punjab Police salutes its brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties,” the IG Punjab said. “Their services and sacrifices will always be remembered.”

He further assured that the families of the martyred officers will not be left alone and that the Punjab Police stands shoulder to shoulder with them in this difficult time.

Support for Families and Injured Personnel

Senior police officials stated that all official procedures related to martyr compensation and benefits would be completed without delay. The families of the martyred officers will be provided with full financial support, job quotas, and other benefits as per government policy.

Meanwhile, special instructions have been issued to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured officers. Senior officers are personally monitoring their treatment and recovery process.

Safety Concerns at Railway Crossings

The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding road and railway crossing safety, particularly for emergency and law enforcement vehicles that remain on duty round the clock. Experts have repeatedly emphasized the need for improved safety mechanisms, better signaling systems, and increased awareness to prevent such tragic accidents.

In recent years, several fatal incidents involving vehicles and trains have been reported across Punjab, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic rules near railway tracks and better coordination between railway authorities and local administration.

Public Reaction and Condolences

The tragic news has triggered an outpouring of grief on social media, where citizens, civil society members, and fellow police officers expressed condolences to the families of the martyrs. Many praised the dedication of police personnel who continue to risk their lives daily to ensure public safety.

Colleagues of the martyred officers described them as disciplined, hardworking, and committed professionals who always performed their duties with honesty and courage.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. Statements of railway staff, eyewitnesses, and police officials will be recorded, while technical assessments of the police mobile and railway signaling system will also be conducted.

The Punjab Police leadership has assured transparency in the investigation and vowed to take corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

A Reminder of the Risks Faced by Police

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by police personnel, not only during high-risk operations but also while performing routine duties. Despite these risks, police officers across Punjab continue to serve with determination, ensuring law and order under challenging circumstances.
