SUKKUR: Deputy Chief Warden of Civil Defence Sukkur, Dr Saeed Awan, met Assistant Commissioner (City) Sukkur, Ms Sarah Faraz, at her office to discuss ways to improve public safety and emergency preparedness across the district.
During the meeting, both officials exchanged views on the role of Civil Defence in serving the public, strengthening fire safety measures, preparing for natural disasters, increasing community awareness, and promoting future joint initiatives. The discussion focused on improving coordination between the administration and Civil Defence to better protect citizens during emergencies.
Assistant Commissioner Ms Sarah Faraz appreciated the services of Civil Defence and described it as an important institution dedicated to public welfare and humanitarian service. She said the organisation has consistently earned the trust of the public through its professional response to fire incidents, natural disasters, and other emergency situations.
She noted that Civil Defence Sukkur has always played a positive and effective role whenever the city has faced difficult circumstances. According to her, the commitment and dedication shown by Civil Defence personnel deserve recognition and appreciation.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Warden Dr Saeed Awan said Civil Defence Sukkur is working day and night under the vision of Deputy Commissioner and Controller Civil Defence Sukkur, Nadir Shehzad Khan, titled “Safe Sukkur, Strong Pakistan.” He said the department remains committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens while improving emergency response capabilities throughout the district.
Dr Awan explained that Civil Defence continues to promote fire safety awareness, rescue preparedness, and volunteer services. He added that every Civil Defence warden performs his responsibilities with dedication and a strong spirit of public service.
He further said that the organisation regularly works to educate the public on emergency response procedures and encourages citizens to follow safety guidelines to minimise risks during fires and natural disasters. According to him, community participation is an essential part of building a safer society.
During the meeting, both sides also agreed to launch a district-wide public awareness campaign on fire safety and the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs). The campaign will aim to educate residents about preventive measures and emergency response techniques.
The awareness drive will cover educational institutions, commercial centres, public buildings, and other important locations across the district. Officials believe that increasing public knowledge about fire prevention and emergency preparedness will help reduce accidents and improve public safety.
The participants also stressed the importance of cooperation between government departments, emergency services, educational institutions, businesses, and local communities. They said coordinated efforts are necessary to create a strong emergency response system capable of handling unexpected situations effectively.
Officials expressed confidence that the proposed awareness campaign would encourage schools, colleges, offices, shopping centres, and other organisations to adopt proper fire safety practices and comply with official safety regulations.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of volunteerism in emergency management. Civil Defence officials said trained volunteers play a valuable role during emergencies by assisting professional rescue teams, guiding the public, and supporting relief efforts whenever required.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working together to improve emergency preparedness and strengthen disaster management capacity in Sukkur. They agreed that public awareness, preventive measures, and timely coordination are key factors in protecting lives and property.
Among those present during the meeting were Muhammad Siddique Soomro from the Assistant Commissioner’s Office. Representing Civil Defence Sukkur were Muhammad Asif Sheikh, Lala Imran Mirani, Lala Rehan Pathan, Shahab Hussain, and Mahmood-ul-Hasan.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue cooperation for promoting public safety, enhancing fire prevention measures, and ensuring that Sukkur remains better prepared to respond to emergencies and natural disasters in the future.
