WhatsApp is the world’s most popular messaging platform, with billions of messages exchanged every day. While billions of people use the app regularly, many are still unaware of some of its useful built-in features.
One of these lesser-known features allows users to change the appearance of their messages by using simple text formatting commands.
Although this feature has been available on WhatsApp for several years, many users still do not know how to use it.
If you want to make a message bold, simply place an asterisk (*) at the beginning and end of the text. For example:
*biscuit* → biscuit
To write in italics, add an underscore (_) before and after the text. For example:
_text_ → text
To apply a strikethrough effect, place a tilde (~) at the beginning and end of the text. For example:
~text~ → text
You can also use a monospace font by placing three backticks (“`) before and after your message. For example:
text
This changes the message into a monospace style, which is especially useful for sharing code, commands, or highlighting specific text.
These built-in formatting tools require no additional settings or apps and can make your WhatsApp messages more organised, expressive, and easier to read.
