Pakistan Army Repels Afghan Taliban and Kharijite Militant Attacks in Spin Boldak, Killing 20 Militants

Rawalpindi — The Pakistan Army successfully thwarted multiple cross-border attacks launched by the Afghan Taliban and the militant group Fitan al-Khawarij in the Spin Boldak region of Balochistan, killing at least 20 attackers in the ensuing clashes, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR reported that four coordinated assaults were carried out from across the border by armed militants belonging to the Afghan Taliban and the Kharijite faction. Pakistani troops stationed in the area responded with swift and decisive force, effectively repelling the infiltration attempts and inflicting significant casualties on the attackers.

“The Pakistan Army’s prompt and professional response compelled the Afghan Taliban fighters to retreat,” the ISPR said, confirming that between 15 and 20 militants were killed during the confrontation.

Militants Used Civilians as Human Shields

According to the military’s media wing, the militants attempted to use local Afghan villages and civilians as human shields, a tactic that complicated the engagement but did not deter Pakistan’s defensive action.

The ISPR condemned the use of non-combatants for cover, terming it a “cowardly and inhumane tactic” inconsistent with international norms and Islamic principles.

“By endangering the lives of innocent villagers, these groups have once again exposed their disregard for human life,” the statement added.

Destruction of Friendship Gate

The ISPR further revealed that the attackers blew up the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate, a symbolic crossing point between the two countries at the Chaman–Spin Boldak border. The military described the act as a “reckless and self-defeating move” that demonstrates the militants’ immature understanding of bilateral trade and tribal relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

“Destroying the Friendship Gate harms the very communities that rely on it for commerce, healthcare, and family connections,” the ISPR noted, emphasizing that Pakistan continues to support lawful cross-border cooperation despite provocations.

Regional Context and Security Challenges

The incident underscores the volatile security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where cross-border militant activities have intensified in recent months. Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concern over the presence of anti-Pakistan militant sanctuaries inside Afghanistan, urging the Taliban-led government in Kabul to take “meaningful and verifiable action” against terrorist networks operating from its soil.

Analysts note that the Spin Boldak-Chaman corridor is both a vital trade artery and a frequent flashpoint for security incidents, with militants attempting to exploit its porous terrain for infiltration.

Commitment to Peace and Stability

Despite these attacks, the Pakistan Army reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace, stability, and border integrity, stating that its operations are aimed solely at neutralizing threats that endanger Pakistan’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.
