Islamabad: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued an advisory for Pakistani students studying medicine in Afghanistan, stating that graduates from Afghan medical institutions will not be eligible to practice medicine in Pakistan.
According to the advisory, medical graduates from Afghanistan will not be granted registration by the PMDC, making them ineligible to obtain a license to practice in the country.
The council explained that Afghan medical institutions are not included in the list of recognized institutions maintained by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
As a result, graduates from these institutions will not be eligible to appear in Pakistan’s National Registration Examination (NRE), which is a mandatory requirement for obtaining medical registration in Pakistan.
The PMDC has advised Pakistani students to verify the ECFMG recognition status of any foreign medical institution before seeking admission, in order to avoid future difficulties with registration and professional practice in Pakistan.
The advisory aims to inform prospective students about the recognition requirements for foreign medical qualifications and to help them make informed decisions regarding their medical education abroad.
