ISLAMABAD: A reshuffle in the federal cabinet is expected as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly completed consultations with his close associates on plans to induct young and new faces into the government, according to sources.
The sources said the prime minister has decided to provide opportunities to emerging leadership as part of an effort to strengthen the cabinet and improve the government’s overall performance. The new entrants are likely to be appointed as Ministers of State.
According to the sources, the government intends to promote hardworking, energetic, and result-oriented individuals, with future appointments expected to be based primarily on performance.
The prime minister has also reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of several federal ministries. In particular, concerns have been raised regarding the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Industries and Production, with questions being asked about their effectiveness in delivering expected results.
Sources said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced concern over the country’s export performance, noting that exports have not increased significantly despite government efforts. He also reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the failure to achieve desired export targets for key agricultural products, including rice, potatoes, and fruits.
In addition to personnel changes, the government is said to be considering reforms in certain ministries aimed at reducing the financial burden on the national exchequer and improving administrative efficiency.
The Ministry of Water Resources has also reportedly come under scrutiny, with the prime minister expressing dissatisfaction over its performance. Practical measures are expected to be introduced to address shortcomings in ministries that have shown weak results.
According to the sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remains committed to making decisions on the basis of performance and ensuring greater accountability across government institutions. However, no official announcement regarding the proposed cabinet reshuffle or the identities of any new appointees has yet been made by the Prime Minister’s Office.
