NEW DELHI: A Hindu extremist leader has allegedly announced a cash reward of Rs50 million (5 crore) for the killing of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, according to Indian media reports, prompting fresh controversy in India.

The controversy follows remarks by Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane, who reportedly referred to Aamir Khan as the “brand ambassador of love jihad” in the context of the actor’s marriages.

Following those comments, Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya, a Hindu religious figure associated with Ayodhya and known for extremist rhetoric, publicly endorsed Rane’s remarks.

According to Indian media reports, Paramhans alleged—without providing evidence—that Aamir Khan’s marriages to Hindu women were intended to promote what he described as “love jihad,” a politically charged and disputed term used by some groups to allege organized efforts to convert Hindu women through marriage.

Media reports further state that Paramhans publicly announced a reward of Rs50 million for anyone who killed the actor. He allegedly said that anyone who beheaded Aamir Khan and brought him proof would receive the cash reward.

He was also reported as saying that if no one carried out the attack, he would personally seek out and kill the actor himself.

According to the reports, the extremist leader additionally claimed he would bear the legal expenses of anyone responsible for carrying out such an act.

The reported statements have not been independently verified. At the time of reporting, there was no immediate public response from Aamir Khan, his representatives, or Indian law enforcement authorities regarding the alleged threats.

Public incitement to violence and threats against individuals are criminal offenses under Indian law, and such statements have previously led to police investigations in similar cases. The latest reported remarks are likely to intensify concerns over the safety of public figures and the increasingly polarized political and social climate in India.
