ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Aoun Chaudhry has called on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to apologize to the families of Pakistan’s martyrs and the nation over his remarks regarding military personnel.
Speaking on Geo News’ current affairs programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, Aoun Chaudhry criticized the statement attributed to the JUI-F leader, saying it linked the status of martyrdom with salary.
He said martyrdom is not attained through financial compensation, but through patriotism, faith, and the spirit of sacrifice.
According to the minister, the remarks were hurtful to the families of those who lost their lives while serving the country.
“We are proud of our martyrs. It is because of their sacrifices that the nation is able to live in peace and security today,” Aoun Chaudhry said, urging Maulana Fazlur Rehman to publicly apologize to the martyrs’ families and the people of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also expressed regret over the reported remarks concerning the country’s martyrs.
He questioned whether the life of a martyr could ever be measured in material terms, saying the sacrifices made by security personnel were beyond any monetary value.
Commenting on the security situation in Balochistan, Talal Chaudhry said terrorist groups had treated the province as a soft target, adding that the government was implementing decisions taken to improve the security situation.
He further stated that whether militants act in the name of religion or regional causes, their objective remains the same, describing both as proxies that should be dealt with through a unified national narrative and decisive action.
The statements by the two ministers come amid a political debate over remarks attributed to Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the sacrifices of security personnel, with government representatives criticizing the comments and emphasizing respect for the country’s martyrs and their families.
