KOHAT: At least 11 people, including women and children, were killed and 12 others injured after the roof of a mud house collapsed during heavy rainfall in a remote village of Kohat, rescue officials said.
The incident occurred on Monday in the mountainous village of Malagin, where intense rain caused the roof of a mud-built house to cave in.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the house was hosting a family gathering when the roof collapsed, trapping numerous people beneath the debris.
Emergency rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched an operation to recover those trapped. The injured were pulled from the rubble, provided with first aid, and shifted to various hospitals for further medical treatment.
Rescue authorities confirmed that the death toll had risen to 11, adding that women and children were among those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Officials also said that many of the injured were women and children, while medical teams continue to provide treatment to the survivors.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall caused another incident in Attock, where a wall collapsed, leaving five people injured.
In Dera Ghazi Khan, rain triggered flooding in seasonal streams in the tribal areas, increasing the risk of flash floods and disrupting normal life.
The downpour also affected electricity supply, with power outages reported in several areas of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Muzaffargarh.
The incidents come amid ongoing monsoon weather affecting different parts of Pakistan, with authorities urging residents, particularly those living in vulnerable or mud-built structures, to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall.
