London: Italy’s Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon crown, claiming the men’s singles title for the second consecutive year after defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in a thrilling final.
The top-seeded Sinner recovered from losing the opening set to secure a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory in a contest that lasted nearly three hours and 45 minutes.
Zverev edged the first set in a tense tie-break, but Sinner responded with determination. The Italian battled through another tie-break to level the match before taking control in the third and fourth sets with his powerful baseline game and consistent serving.
In the third set, Zverev managed to win only three games, while he claimed four games in the fourth as Sinner maintained his momentum to seal the championship.
The victory marks Sinner’s second straight Wimbledon title, having lifted the prestigious trophy for the first time last year. By retaining the championship, the Italian star further strengthened his position among the world’s elite tennis players and added another Grand Slam title to his growing list of achievements.
