KARACHI: Pakistani actress and writer Mira Sethi has spoken candidly about her marriage and divorce, saying that no one pressured her into getting married and that she does not blame anyone but herself for the decision.

Mira made the remarks during a recent interview with actor and singer Ahmed Ali Butt, where she discussed her career, personal life, and the lessons she has learned from her past relationship.

Responding to a question about her divorce, the actress said one of the most important lessons she learned was not to place blind trust in emotions or the heart alone when making major life decisions.

She also emphasized the importance of maintaining one’s individuality in relationships.

“I learned not to blindly trust my heart or emotions, and not to change who I am for someone else,” she said.

According to Mira, people often appreciate it when someone changes their personality to meet others’ expectations, whether for a spouse, a friend, a male boss, or anyone else. However, she believes that sacrificing one’s identity is ultimately unhealthy.

She described these as the two most significant lessons she gained from her experience.

Reflecting on the passage of time since her divorce, Mira said the experience helped her grow as a person.

“I enjoyed life, learned a great deal, and became more mature. I can say this today because several years have passed since my divorce and I have moved forward with my life,” she said.

The actress also commented on societal expectations placed on women, noting that women who refuse to constantly adjust to circumstances are often unfairly criticized.

She said people frequently label such women as being unable to “adjust,” even when they are simply choosing to remain true to themselves.

Addressing the circumstances surrounding her marriage, Mira stressed that there was no social or family pressure for her to get married.

She explained that she married at an age later than what society typically considers ideal and that the decision was based entirely on her own beliefs and feelings.

“It was completely my own decision, motivated by idealism and love. In this matter, I cannot blame anyone except myself,” she said.

Mira Sethi married Bilal Siddiqi in California, United States, in 2019. The couple announced their separation in 2023 after four years of marriage.

Through her interview, the actress highlighted the value of self-awareness, personal growth, and preserving one’s identity while navigating relationships and life’s challenges.
