WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has said he fears he could be the target of an assassination attempt, accusing Iran of plotting to kill him and warning of severe consequences if such an attack were carried out.

According to international media reports, Trump claimed he is on what he described as Iran’s “hit list” and alleged that Tehran has wanted him dead for years.

“I am on Iran’s hit list. Iran has wanted to see me dead for many years,” Trump was quoted as saying.

Trump further warned that if anything happened to him as a result of an Iranian plot, the United States would respond with overwhelming military force.

He said that if Iran were to carry out an assassination or attempted assassination against him, it would face consequences unlike anything seen before.

“If anything happens to me, Iran would face a level of bombing it has never seen before,” Trump said, according to the reports.

The U.S. president also stated that any attempt by Iran to act on what he described as threats against his life would result in serious repercussions.

In addition, Trump remarked that if anything were to happen to him, he hoped people would remember him.

His comments come amid continuing tensions between the United States and Iran, with relations remaining strained over a range of regional security and geopolitical issues.

At the time of the reports, Iran had not publicly responded to Trump’s latest allegations. The claims regarding an alleged assassination plot have not been independently verified.
