Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arslan Islam Sheikh has condemned the reported eviction of residents from their homes by railway authorities, alleging that men, women and elderly people are being forcibly removed and calling on former PM Nawaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the matter.
Addressing a press conference in Sukkur on Monday, the mayor described the reported action as unjust and cruel.
Nawaz Sharif was a good person and a public-friendly politician, urging him to intervene and prevent further distress to residents, said Barrister.
The mayor further said that despite holding the office of mayor, he had not been informed about the railway authorities’ operation.
He said the Sukkur Municipal Corporation would raise its voice against what he described as high-handedness of railway authorities and would approach the court over the dislodgement of residents.
Arslan Islam Sheikh added that he would not hesitate to take to the street to protect the rights of the affected citizens.
