ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has said that a joint security operation involving the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC), and police is underway in Balochistan, asserting that the ongoing militant violence has no connection with the province’s political issues or legitimate public grievances.
Speaking during Geo News’ current affairs programme “Naya Pakistan,” Rana Sanaullah said security forces have intensified operations against militant groups and that a significant number of militants have been killed in recent actions.
He stated that the Pakistan Army, FC, and police are conducting coordinated operations across affected areas as part of efforts to restore peace and eliminate militant networks.
According to the adviser, the militant groups operating in Balochistan should not be associated with the province’s political demands.
“This terrorism has nothing to do with Balochistan’s issues or politics,” Rana Sanaullah said, adding that banned militant organizations are pursuing violent agendas rather than political objectives.
Referring to a recent attack, he said militants targeted a police checkpoint established to protect a dam, describing the assault as an attack on critical public infrastructure.
He claimed that the attackers sought to plunge the surrounding area into darkness by targeting facilities linked to water and essential services.
“The terrorists attacked the police post established for the protection of the dam. The purpose of the attack was to push the area into darkness and target water infrastructure,” he said.
Rana Sanaullah maintained that the security operation would continue until militant groups are neutralized and law and order are fully restored.
His remarks come amid ongoing counterterrorism operations in Balochistan, where security forces have reported multiple engagements with militant groups in recent days.
The statements represent the views of Rana Sanaullah expressed during the television interview. The claims regarding the operations and casualties have not been independently verified.
