The International Cricket Council (ICC) has sought an explanation from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over the broadcast of former England captain Ben Stokes’ retirement video.
According to the ICC, a video of Stokes’ retirement speech in the dressing room was aired before the conclusion of the Test match, which is considered a breach of ICC regulations.
The governing body stated that broadcasting audio or video footage from the dressing room during an ongoing match is prohibited under its media and broadcasting rules. It said the ECB violated these regulations by recording and releasing the footage before the match had officially ended.
Reports indicate that Ben Stokes delivered the speech to inform his teammates of his retirement before the start of play.
The ICC emphasized that any dressing-room footage recorded during a match cannot be made public until after the match has concluded, and has requested the ECB to clarify the circumstances surrounding the early release of the video.
