TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that negotiations on a final agreement cannot begin if threats against Iran continue, urging adherence to previously agreed commitments.
In a statement posted on social media, Araghchi said that millions of Iranians demonstrated national unity by participating in ceremonies honoring Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, adding that neither the Iranian people nor the country’s armed forces would be influenced by threats.
The foreign minister referred to Clause 13 of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), stating that it clearly provides that negotiations on a final agreement cannot proceed while threats persist.
“If threats continue, talks on a final agreement will not begin,” Araghchi said, according to Iranian media.
He also called on the other party to honor its signature and commitments, without elaborating further on the specific agreement referenced.
The remarks come amid ongoing tensions surrounding diplomatic engagement with Iran and reflect Tehran’s position that meaningful negotiations require an atmosphere free from coercion or threats.
At the time of reporting, there was no immediate public response from the other parties referenced in the statement. Iran’s comments represent its official position as expressed by the foreign minister.
