TEHRAN: A senior Iranian official has sharply criticized recent remarks attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump, warning that Iran expects its people to be addressed with respect.

According to Iranian state media, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, responded to Trump’s reported statements by saying that threatening language toward Iran would not be effective.

Zolghadr said Trump had previously spoken about ending Iran’s centuries-old civilization, adding that such policies had, in his view, resulted only in failure and disappointment.

He stated that the Iranian people are not intimidated by threats and warned that Iran would respond firmly if it was not treated with respect.

“Speak to the Iranian nation with respect; otherwise, you will receive a response in a different language,” Zolghadr was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

Iranian Culture Minister Also Responds

Iran’s Minister of Culture, Seyed Abbas Salehi, also commented on the issue in a post on the social media platform X.

According to Iranian media, Salehi criticized what he described as the continued use of threatening rhetoric by Iran’s adversaries.

He said that if previous confrontations had failed to provide sufficient lessons, the large public participation in commemorative events for Iran’s fallen leaders should demonstrate the country’s unity and resolve.

Salehi further stated that Iran would neither retreat from defending what it considers its rights nor abandon diplomacy.

Context

The statements come amid continued tensions between Iran and the United States, with both sides frequently exchanging strong rhetoric over regional security, sanctions, and Iran’s nuclear program.

At the time of reporting, there was no immediate public response from the White House or U.S. officials to the latest remarks made by the Iranian leadership.

The statements quoted above reflect the views of the Iranian officials and have been reported by Iranian state media.
