LONDON: The United Kingdom is experiencing its third heatwave of the year, with temperatures forecast to remain above 30°C for up to 10 consecutive days, according to weather officials.

According to international media reports, temperatures are expected to rise further during the middle of the week, with some areas likely to reach 34°C.

The prolonged spell of hot weather is expected to affect large parts of England, prompting health authorities to issue heat-related alerts.

Health Alerts Issued

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an Amber Heat-Health Alert for the Midlands, Eastern England, and Southern England, which will remain in effect from July 8 to July 21.

An amber alert indicates that high temperatures could have a significant impact on public health, particularly for vulnerable groups such as older adults, young children, and people with underlying medical conditions. The warning also highlights the possibility of increased pressure on health and social care services.

For Northern England, the agency has issued a Yellow Heat-Health Alert covering the same period, indicating a lower but still notable risk from the expected hot weather.

Public Advised to Take Precautions

Health authorities are advising residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day, and check on elderly relatives, neighbors, and other vulnerable individuals.

People are also encouraged to keep indoor spaces as cool as possible by closing curtains during peak sunshine hours and ensuring adequate ventilation when temperatures fall.

Ongoing Heat Across Europe

The latest heatwave comes as several parts of Europe continue to experience unusually high summer temperatures linked to persistent high-pressure weather systems.

Meteorologists will continue monitoring conditions throughout the week, with updated forecasts expected as the heatwave develops.

If temperatures remain at the predicted levels, this could become one of the longest sustained periods of hot weather experienced in the UK this summer.
