Islamabad: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has said that the government will review international oil price indicators this week before making any decision regarding domestic petroleum prices.
In a statement on petrol and diesel prices, the minister said the government is not giving preferential treatment to any particular sector, nor is it placing an unnecessary financial burden on any segment of the economy. He emphasized that the government remains committed to passing on the maximum possible benefit to consumers while fulfilling its international obligations.
Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that fluctuations in global oil prices are closely monitored and form an important part of the government’s pricing mechanism. He said the authorities will carefully assess international market trends for petrol and diesel during the current week before determining any adjustments to local fuel prices.
The petroleum minister reiterated that the government’s objective is to strike a balance between providing relief to consumers and maintaining economic stability. He added that any decision regarding fuel prices would be taken in accordance with prevailing international market conditions and the country’s fiscal commitments.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to reduce fuel costs, the minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, diesel prices have been reduced by Rs200 per litre, while petrol prices have been cut by Rs155 per litre since the current administration took office.
He said these reductions demonstrate the government’s commitment to providing relief to the public whenever international market conditions allow. According to the minister, lowering fuel prices has helped ease transportation costs and reduce financial pressure on consumers and businesses.
Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasized that the government will continue to monitor developments in global energy markets and make decisions that are in the broader national interest. He added that authorities remain focused on ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products while protecting consumers from unnecessary price volatility as much as possible.
The minister concluded by saying that a final decision regarding any revision in petrol and diesel prices will be made after a comprehensive review of international oil price indicators and other relevant economic factors during the week.
