HYDERABAD, INDIA: A man in the Indian state of Telangana has been arrested for allegedly murdering four members of his extended family in a brutal attack that police say was motivated by financial problems and planned after watching online videos.
According to Indian media reports, the suspect, identified as Aslam, allegedly carried out the killings to obtain money and valuables from his relatives.
Police said the crime came to light on June 22, when neighbors reported a strong foul odor coming from a house. Officers responding to the complaint discovered the bodies of four victims inside the residence.
Investigators identified the victims as Hasina, her husband, and their two children.
According to police, Aslam worked as a car driver in Hyderabad and had been struggling with mounting debts while trying to maintain an expensive lifestyle.
Authorities said Aslam had previously borrowed 100,000 Indian rupees from his wife’s aunt, Hasina. More recently, he allegedly approached her for another loan of 100,000 rupees to purchase a new car. Hasina reportedly refused the request and instead demanded repayment of the earlier loan.
Police further alleged that Aslam’s wife, Tasbeem, harbored personal resentment toward her aunt and suggested that her husband steal from the family’s home. Investigators claim that Aslam then began watching online videos to help plan the crime.
According to the investigation, Aslam went to Hasina’s home on the morning of June 19, where he allegedly stabbed her to death before attacking and killing her husband and their two children.
After the killings, police said the suspect stole gold jewelry, land ownership documents, and bank-related papers before fleeing the scene.
Investigators allege that Aslam later pawned the stolen valuables at a jewelry shop in Hyderabad for approximately 530,000 Indian rupees, with the assistance of a friend.
Police have arrested Aslam, his wife, and the friend who allegedly helped pawn the stolen property. Authorities also detained the jeweler as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the accused will be subject to judicial proceedings in accordance with Indian law.
