Kohlu: Another earthquake struck Kohlu district in Balochistan on Saturday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Seismological Centre recording a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale, continuing a series of tremors that have affected the region over the past two days.
According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 kilometres, with its epicentre located approximately 40 kilometres north of Kohlu. The relatively shallow depth of the quake made the tremors noticeable in and around the district.
Authorities said that no casualties or damage to property had been reported immediately after the earthquake. Local administration and disaster management officials are continuing to monitor the situation, while emergency services remain alert in case any aftershocks or related incidents occur.
The latest tremor follows a series of earthquakes that were felt in Kohlu on the previous day, raising concerns among residents about ongoing seismic activity in the area.
According to the Meteorological Department, three separate earthquakes struck Kohlu on Friday. The first tremor was recorded at 10:25 a.m., followed by a second at 10:58 a.m. Both earthquakes were felt by residents, prompting many people to leave their homes and workplaces as a precaution.
Later that day, at 4:49 p.m., a third and stronger earthquake shook the district. The Meteorological Department reported that the quake measured 5.1 in magnitude and occurred at a depth of 17 kilometres, making it the strongest of the recent seismic events in the region.
The tremors were not limited to Kohlu. Residents in the nearby districts of Zhob, Barkhan, and Rakhni also reported feeling the earthquakes, indicating that the seismic activity affected a wider area of northeastern Balochistan.
Although no significant damage has been reported so far, repeated earthquakes have caused anxiety among local communities, many of whom have remained cautious amid fears of additional aftershocks.
Pakistan is situated along the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making the country vulnerable to earthquakes of varying intensity. Balochistan, in particular, is considered one of the country’s most seismically active regions due to the presence of several active fault lines.
Seismologists advise residents living in earthquake-prone areas to remain vigilant, follow safety guidelines, and avoid panic during seismic events. Authorities have urged the public to stay informed through official channels and report any structural damage or emergencies to local disaster response agencies.
Officials continue to monitor seismic developments in the region, while disaster management authorities remain prepared to respond promptly should further tremors occur.
