Former NADRA Chairman and current World Bank advisor Tariq Malik has been recognized among the world’s top 25 experts in digital identity and public infrastructure, marking a significant achievement for Pakistan on the global stage.
According to reports, the announcement will be formally displayed on May 4 at the iconic Times Square in New York, where the names and images of all 25 selected experts will be showcased. This recognition comes from OKTA, a globally renowned platform specializing in digital identity, cloud systems, and cybersecurity.
Tariq Malik has been acknowledged for his outstanding contributions to digital identity systems, security frameworks, and the development of trusted digital ecosystems. His work has had a far-reaching impact, not only in Pakistan but also internationally, particularly in strengthening digital governance and secure identity solutions.
Malik previously served as the Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), where he played a pivotal role in modernizing Pakistan’s identity management system. One of his most notable achievements includes designing and implementing the digital infrastructure behind the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which became a model for transparent and efficient welfare distribution.
Before his current role at the World Bank as a technical advisor, Tariq Malik also contributed his expertise at the United Nations, further enhancing his global credentials in digital systems and governance.
He is the son of renowned Pakistani scholar Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik. His journey into public service was notably influenced by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who encouraged him to return to Pakistan and contribute his skills to national development.
Even after her assassination, Malik continued to play a leading role in advancing Pakistan’s digital identity and security systems, ensuring they meet modern technological demands.
