ISLAMABAD: The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has predicted that Eid ul Adha is likely to be observed in Pakistan on Wednesday, May 27, based on astronomical calculations.
According to the Council’s Secretary General, Khalid Ijaz Mufti, scientific data suggests a strong possibility of Eid falling on this date. He explained that the new moon for Zil Hajj is expected to be born between the night of May 16 and 17 at approximately 1:15 AM Pakistan Standard Time.
At sunset on May 17, the moon’s age in most parts of Pakistan will be slightly over 18 hours, which is generally considered sufficient for visibility under normal weather conditions.
However, if cloudy weather prevents the moon from being sighted on the evening of May 17, the month of Zil Qa’dah will complete 30 days. In that case, the first of Zil Hajj would fall on May 19, adjusting the Eid date accordingly.
The Council also indicated that there is a strong likelihood that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid ul Adha on the same day this year, i.e., May 27.
