NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Leaders of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), including Chairman Dr Niaz Kalani and Panhal Sario, have categorically rejected any proposal to divide Sindh, declaring that the province is one and will remain united.
Addressing a press conference at the Naushahro Feroze Press Club in the presence of party workers, the nationalist leaders said the people of Sindh would not accept the division of the province under any circumstances.
The JSQM leaders said Sindh had remained a united land and political and cultural entity for centuries and would continue to retain its identity. They maintained that the people of Sindh were unwilling to accept any proposal, plan or political arrangement that could result in the division of the province.
They said the people of Sindh had played a significant role in the creation of Pakistan, but alleged that the province had subsequently been subjected to what they described as unfair treatment. According to them, the concerns and aspirations of the people of Sindh must be addressed through democratic and constitutional means.
The leaders welcomed the resolution reportedly passed by the Sindh Assembly against the division of the province, describing it as a positive and encouraging development. They said the move reflected the sentiments of a significant section of the people of Sindh who want the province to remain geographically and politically united.
They stressed that Sindh was not merely an administrative territory but had a distinct historical, cultural and social identity. Any attempt to alter its existing boundaries, they argued, would create further political uncertainty and tension.
The nationalist leaders further claimed that they were capable of responding politically and democratically to any attempt they considered a threat to the unity of Sindh. They said nationalist forces would continue to mobilize public opinion against proposals that, in their view, could lead to the division of the province.
During the press conference, they announced that a number of nationalist political parties had established a Rehbar Committee to coordinate their activities and launch a joint movement against the proposed division of Sindh.
According to the JSQM leaders, the joint movement will begin with a major protest in Nawabshah on September 20. They said the protest would include a large public march aimed at demonstrating opposition to any proposal for dividing the province.
The leaders described the planned demonstration as an important step toward bringing nationalist political forces together on a common platform. They expressed confidence that large numbers of political activists, lawyers and members of civil society would participate in the protest.
They said the movement would seek to convey a clear message that the people of Sindh would not accept any attempt to undermine the province’s unity. The JSQM representatives maintained that various nationalist groups, lawyers and political and social leaders had already developed a consensus on the issue.
