Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, on Friday, has formally inaugurated the CM Crime Surveillance Unit to strengthen crime monitoring and improve police performance across the province.
During the inauguration, Crime Surveillance Unit Head Usman Tahir briefed the chief minister on the new system, which will digitally monitor policing at district, circle and police station levels, including the performance of District Police Officer (DPOs), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officer (SHOs).
The unit will provide comprehensive data on crimes reported at every police station across Punjab with a single click.
It will monitor crime trends under 20 different categories, while experts will prepare immediate data analysis reports.
The system will also track citizens complaints and applications to ensure timely resolution and enable action in cases of unnecessary delays.
Maryam Nawaz directed the Inspector General of Punjab Police to prepare a reform plan and ensure proper use of police station record management data.
She also expressed concern over complaints of unjustified delays in FIR registration.
The chief minister further directed an immediate response to negative propaganda against the police force and said the unit would make the campaign against crime more effective.
“We aim to make Punjab free from all forms of crime,” she said, and added that the actions of a few individuals should not be used to question the performance of the entire police force.
Maryam Nawaz welcomed the reported downward trend in crime following police reforms and stressed the need to further improve the department’s performance.
