Karachi: Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjar appeared before the judicial commission investigating the murder of young businessman Mir Raza and tendered an unconditional apology.
The judicial commission held its meeting under the chairmanship of Justice Umar Sial. During the proceedings, Zia Lanjar appeared before the commission and said that the Sindh government wanted a transparent investigation into the case and did not want anyone to believe that the provincial government was avoiding a proper inquiry.
Zia Lanjar said that it was important for the commission to reach a conclusion so that the facts surrounding Mir Raza’s death could be brought to light. He added that anyone found responsible for the incident would be dealt with according to the law.
Justice Umar Sial observed during the hearing that Mir Raza’s family had very little confidence in the investigation process. The judge also criticised the Sindh Advocate General, saying that his actions had further aggravated the situation.
Mir Raza’s father’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, requested the judicial commission to summon Mir Raza’s business partner again. According to the lawyer, Ahmed had made allegations against the commission, and his statement required further examination.
Digital evidence was also discussed during the proceedings. Citizens provided the judicial commission with information related to Mir Raza’s digital accounts, digital footprints and cloud login records. The information may assist investigators in establishing the sequence of events and examining whether relevant digital evidence was properly investigated.
The case has gained significant public attention because of concerns over the investigation. Questions have reportedly been raised regarding the handling of evidence, the examination of the crime scene and the post-mortem process.
The commission subsequently summoned several individuals connected with the investigation. Dr Usama and Dr Sumaya, who conducted Mir Raza’s post-mortem examination, were directed to appear before the commission and provide relevant information.
The commission also summoned SHO Adil Afzal and Head Muharrir Zeeshan. Their statements are expected to help the commission understand the procedures followed by police officials after the incident and during the investigation.
The judicial commission is examining statements, documents, digital information and other available evidence to establish the facts surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
Zia Lanjar’s appearance before the commission and his unconditional apology are an important development in the case. His statement that the government supports a transparent investigation indicates that the provincial authorities want the commission to complete its inquiry and determine the facts.
