Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shafiullah Jan has said that his party will not support holding a referendum on the issue of new provinces.
Speaking on Geo News’ programme Capital Talk, Shafiullah Jan said PTI was also opposed to using a referendum to decide the provinces issue.
Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik, however, argued in favour of a referendum, saying that the Constitution provides a procedure for conducting one.
PPP leader Palwasha Khan questioned whether a referendum could replace the constitutional procedure for creating new provinces. She said the Constitution already lays down the mechanism for establishing new provinces and criticised the idea of using a referendum for the matter.
