President Asif Ali Zardari has said the Makkah Mutual Defence Pact reflects Pakistan’s growing role, stressing that the country will not compromise on its sovereignty or national security.
In his Defence and Martyrs Day message, President Zardari paid tribute to the martyrs and veterans of the 1965 war, saying their sacrifices remain an inspiration for future generations. He said the spirit of September 6 was once again demonstrated during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.
The president also emphasized the strong bond between Pakistan’s armed forces and the people, saying a united nation cannot be defeated. He called for a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute and urged India to stop supporting proxy terrorism in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his Defence Day message, said the armed forces gave the enemy a response during the recent conflict that would be remembered for generations. He said Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos was another golden chapter in Pakistan’s military history.
The prime minister reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue playing an active role in promoting regional and global peace and stability.
